Who's behind tern®
tern is the internet souvenir shop. We make clothes, bags and objects that celebrate the internet we grew up with: the software, the games, the forums, all the things everyone used and nobody ever really celebrated.
It started with Maxime. In 2017 he launched Forever Vacation, his first clothing brand, and with it came the first successes and a few drops we're still proud of. Then a question: what would happen if we started again from zero, and spoke to the whole world from day one? In 2022 he started tern, in English, without telling anyone, around the one subject that excites him as much as clothes: the internet. The first drop went well, then a second, then a third. Later, we told everyone who was behind it, in a YouTube video.
Growing up, Maxime spent a lot of time on forums, and his first evenings in his city's hackerspaces, around people who fascinated him and taught him things. The software, the games, the eras and the movements of the internet from that time never left him. tern is our way of celebrating them in something physical, something you can wear and keep for years. We like to stop for two seconds on things people take for granted and say: honestly, this was pretty crazy.
Take WinRAR. Everyone has used it, almost nobody thinks about it. We went to Berlin to meet the team and explain what a clothing collection could be. They trusted us, and people loved the result. Part of every sale goes to WinRAR, so each piece also supports a piece of software from our childhood. For one of tern's birthdays, we shot a campaign with András Arató, the man behind Hide the Pain Harold. Clothes and bags for now, maybe other objects one day: the idea stays the same.
Today we're a small team based in Paris: Maxime on design and direction, Tom on projects and production, Hugo on logistics, with freelancers and friends around us. We ship all over the world, and real people answer your messages, Monday to Friday.
